Brazilian vs Bikini Laser Hair Removal - Which one is right for you?
It seems that, no matter how often we get a wax or when we last shaved, the area never quite has a smooth, flawless appearance. Whether razor burn, ingrown hairs, or stubble growing back from the morning’s shave cause the flaws, they tend to be most noticeable at the least convenient times. Everything appears decent enough in the mirror at home, but the sunlight on the beach always reveals the spots we missed or forgot altogether. It’s because of this that many women become interested in laser hair removal, and more often than not, they start with the pubic region.
This ultimately leads to the big question: Brazilian hair removal or bikini laser hair removal? To figure out which option is better for you, we’ve provided an overview of each option below.
What’s the Difference Between Brazilian and Bikini Laser Hair Removal?
Difference Between Brazilian and Bikini Hair Removal
Many women do not know the difference between a bikini line treatment and a Brazilian. The two are similar, so it understandingly causes a bit of confusion. Since the subject can be embarrassing to discuss, women tend to research it beforehand instead of asking their laser hair removal technician what the difference is.
The Bikini Line
The area that lies outside of the panty line is considered the bikini line. A bikini line laser hair removal treatment typically covers up to three inches beyond this line, ensuring a flawless look in panties or a bikini. It often also addresses some areas that underwear covers, such as the sides of the labia and top of the pubic region, but this is up to the client.
A Brazilian laser hair removal treatment includes more area than a bikini treatment because it includes the labia and perianal areas as well. This option leaves women completely bare, but often those who choose Brazilian treatments opt to keep some hair in the pubic region, such as a landing strip.
Either option can be customized to fit what you’re looking for.
How Much Maintenance Do You Want to Avoid?
Full Bikini Laser Hair Removal vs Brazilian
All women know the bikini zone is one of the most troubling hair removal areas because most hair removal methods seem to cause more problems than they solve. Laser hair removal on the bikini line will create a smooth, flawless appearance and prevent stubble from growing back and the irritation that other hair removal methods cause.
Those who choose this option will still need to maintain the area, however. It will require less maintenance than before but more than if you chose the Brazilian hair removal option, which will permanently eliminate all hair in the pubic region
What Is Your Objective?
Are you looking to simply reduce the amount of ingrown hairs on your bikini line and get rid of razor burn? Are you looking to shave less often and be sure you didn’t miss a spot while lying on the beach? Then laser hair removal treatments in the bikini area might be the best option for you.
Are you looking to never have to worry about shaving again and save hundreds of dollars a year on other hair removal methods? Are you looking to permanently eliminate ingrown hairs, razor burn, sweating, chafing, and other irritations? Are you looking to have flawless skin not only in a swimsuit but in the nude as well? Then Brazilian laser hair removal treatments might be right for you.
Full Brazilian versus Regular Brazilian?
While a Brazilian can be a variety of different hair removal styles that remove almost all pubic hair from the pubic region, a full Brazilian removes it all, leaving no hair whatsoever. Choose to leave a neat strip, triangle, or no hair whatsoever -- it's completely your choice! Here are a few popular styles below:
Why Brazilian Hair removal?
Wellaholic's SHR permanent hair removal takes the process to a whole new level. Once the hair has been removed it's as if there was never any hair to begin with. These laser hair removal procedures are our most popular because many women love the idea of not having to worry about bikini bumps and ingrown hairs, and just love that fresh clean feeling every single day of the year. Not having to waste time every morning or repeatedly paying for temporary solutions like waxing are key reasons why Brazilian laser hair removal has become very popular at Wellaholic.

A QUICK INTRODUCTION TO IPL FOR HAIR REMOVAL
First and foremost, IPL (or intense pulse light) uses a single pulse of energy, at high intensity, which targets the customer's hair follicles and melanin. IPL simply works by releasing light in multiple wavelengths directly into the dermis. Melanin is produced in specialised cells called melanocytes. The intense light and energy from IPL is converted into heat energy and is able to cause damage to the hair follicles without causing too much damage to the skin. This makes IPL more suitable for people with darker and coarser hair.
A person with fairer skin will likely require more sessions as the IPL hair removal technology is less effective on them. On the other hand, while IPL is effective for darker-skinned people, they may have more uncomfortable session (i.e. PAIN!) since their skin will be absorbing more heat energy which would then be translated into pain when the heat affects the nerves.
shr OR sUPER hAIR rEMOVAL
SHR - What about SHR?
SHR or Super Hair Removal is a relatively newer technology which uses gentler pulses of energy but at a higher frequency. This laser hair removal technology allows the skin to be heated gently, but with the rapid pulses, the energy is then accumulated by the skin. While 50% of the energy is targeted at the melanin (similar to IPL), the other 50% targets the stem cells responsible for hair production.
This is a very important point to note as SHR thereby targets both fine and coarse hairs. Ultimately, this leads to less discomfort and pain, yet an improved efficacy.
Because of the gradual accumulation of the energy into the skin, there is less trauma and irritation on the skin - making it ideal and suitable for everyone, regardless of skin tone and even for customers with sensitive skin. In fact, SHR is often considered to be one of the best laser hair removal treatments in Singapore given the various technologies. SHR hair removal is very ideal for Brazilian Hair Removal as it is more gentle on the skin.
shr hAIR rEMOVAL
How Many SHR Treatments are Necessary for Effective Hair Removal?
If the hair is in the anagen phase of growth during treatment, which refers to the active (hair) growth phase, it can be easily destroyed as in the case with IPL technology. The advantage of SHR hair removal in this case is that it can work with customers during both their anagen phase and non-anagen phase, as SHR can target the 50% of the stem cells. Nevertheless, a three-to-four week recovery or "down" time is required to meet this anagen phase as well as to give the skin a recovery time before the next treatment.

What is the Price of Hair Removal Treatments in Singapore?
Hair removal is pretty much the norm in Singapore these days. In fact, hair removal is not only applicable for women but for men as well. According to a survey by Braun, about 62% of men now manscape regularly, with those that do saying it makes them feel cleaner, sexier and also enhances the appearance of their muscle. While shaving and waxing are the more common forms of hair removal in the past, they do not lead to permanent hair reduction, and there are many horror stories of ingrown hairs. In this article, we will provide an estimation of the per-session hair removal treatments for some of the establishments in Singapore.
Why does shaving and waxing lead to ingrown hairs?
The objective of waxing is to remove the entire hair from the follicle (hidden beneath the skin). However, the hair tends to break either above or slightly below the skin's surface when waxed. Usually this is caused when the wax is removed in the opposing direction of the hair's growth. This leads to additional strain on the hair.
Instead of a new hair growing back with its natural beveled edge, the hair is now blunt and sharp. This sharpness causes the hair to pierce the skin and grow into it. Shaving also causes the same issue. The ingrown hair is not only unattractive and permanent, but it can be painful. Ingrown hairs also causes pimples due to the infection of the area - unless you remove the ingrown hair, the discomfort continues to persist and may even cause pus to form due to infection.
This is also why more customers are turning to hair removal as the better alternative to shaving and waxing.
What are the prices of hair removal treatments in Singapore?
While most treatment salons do not openly publish their prices, the question that is likely on most of your minds would be "What are the prices of the various hair removal treatment places in Singapore?". Through a few sources, we were able to compile a list of hair removal treatments and their per-session prices. (Disclaimer: prices might be outdated; they might also fluctuate from time to time, hence please use this a rough guide, and check with each treatment centre for the most updated pricing).
Brazilian Hair Removal - Typical Costs of Service in Singapore
There is a high demand for Brazilian hair removal treatments in Singapore. With this in mind, we gathered some of the per-session Brazilian hair removal treatments by various providers. Please note that some outlets require the purchase of a treatment package (e.g. 6 or 12 sessions, or an annual plan). Also, the type of hair removal technology used are also different. You might want to review the differences between IPL and SHR hair removal.
Full Body Hair removal - Typical Costs of an All-inclusive package in Singapore
Besides Brazilian hair removal, there is also a unique category of Full Body Hair Removal. This allows the customer to pay a single price or fee to enjoy permanent hair removal for all body parts including Brazilian or Boyzilian. There are not many merchants offering such a service, with the exception of Wellaholic and Datsumo Labo. Wellaholic also has a WellaSmooth package which includes all-inclusive shaving as well as Post-Treatment Therapy with AfterGlow (red light rejuvenating treatment).
Always Consider the Quality of Treatments over the Pricing
While the per-session pricing is a good gauge on which hair removal operator to visit, pricing alone is usually not an effective indicator. This is because the quality and efficacy of treatments, together with the level of customer service may vary from establishment to establishment. Always make it a point to read the customer reviews before committing yourself to a long-term package!

Key Facts on Jurong East outlet
9 Interesting Facts about WellaFreeze Fat Freeze or Cryolipolysis
1. Fat Freeze is Cryolipolysis
Fat Freeze is technically known as Cryolipolysis, which means cooling down fat cells down to a temperature initiating the apoptosis process. In short, Fat Freeze kills and disposes the fat cells targeted. This fat freezing treatment is a non-surgical fat reduction procedure that uses low temperatures to reduce fat deposits in certain areas of the body. During the procedure, the practitioner vacuums the skin above the area of fatty tissue into an applicator that cools the fat cells. The cold temperatures numb the area, and some people report feeling a cooling sensation.
2. Our Body Clears the Frozen Fat Cells Effectively
Our body is really good at making sure we don’t have cells we no longer need left around and breaks them down after they have been frozen during treatment. A 2015 review Trusted Source published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery analysed 19 previous studies of cryolipolysis.
Researchers found that when the studies had measured fat reduction with a caliper, which is a tool similar to a ruler, people lost an average of 14.67 to 28.5 percent of the fat in areas treated by cryolipolysis. When the studies measured the fat reduction with ultrasound, people lost 10.3 percent to 25.5 percent.
3. We Really Do Pee Away the Fat cells!
Peeing, pooping, sweating and breathing is all part of the natural process of ridding ourselves of waste. The fat cells that are killed by the treatment is disposed through the lymphatic system. There are no major health risk factors associated with the procedure. There was no reduction in liver function or lipid levels, meaning that WellaFreeze Fat Freezing is purely a cosmetic procedure.
4. The Treated Area May Feel Like a Chilled Chicken Thigh
Immediately after treatment, the areas will of course feel colder but it rarely freeze solid. The skin will be pink for a while, but this will last for between 30 to 60 minutes after. Most cryolipolysis procedures take around an hour. There is no recovery time because there is no damage to the skin or tissue. Some people report soreness at the site of fat freeze, similar to that they might have after an intense workout or minor muscle injury.
After the procedure, it may take around 4–6 months for the fat cells to leave the body. In that time, the area of fat will decrease by an average of 20 percent.
5. Results are not Instant and You will Need to Be Patient
How long does it take to see results from fat freezing? WellaFreeze results can be seen in as little as three weeks. As the body takes time to naturally dispose the dead fat cells, you will take between 30 days to 90 days to see the full extend of the treatment.
The best ways to improve the results is to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to exercise regularly. If you combine these two things with the treatment, it can help to optimise the results achieved.
Because it takes some time for the dead fat cells to break down and then flush out of the system, you need to pay attention to what you are eating. If you fall back into your old habits, you aren’t going to achieve satisfying results.
Another way to improve results is with massage. Try to massage the treated area for five minutes after treatment. Doing this can help improve fat reduction by up to 68 percent after the initial two months.
Drinking more water may also help improve results of Coolsculpting. While there’s no documented proof, many doctors recommend this. That’s because when your body is properly hydrated, it flushes dead cells more efficiently.
6. WellaFreeze is Not Just for the Belly
While the belly or stomach is the most popular treatment area, other areas ideal for fat freezing includes many areas. The hips, inner thighs, lower back, upper arms or even chin can be treated.
The abdominal area is the most common area treated with Cryolipolysis (Fat Freezing). Stubborn fat can accumulate in both men and women of all ages, even with regular exercise and diet the stubborn fat may stay in this area and this can be very disheartening. For men, its the beer belly, surgery, medication; for woman, its after pregnancy, medication, hormone change and more. It can be very difficult to get rid of this stubborn body fat in your stomach area by yourself, but thankfully it is one of the best body areas for Cryolipolysis treatment. It helps clients achieve flatter stomachs, flatter abs that they can really sculpt through further exercise, and boost body confidence in all genders and ages.
7. wellaFreeze can Also Treat Man Boops or Gynecomastia
Man boobs – medically, gynaecomastia – is often the result of a hormone imbalance, when a man’s ratio of oestrogen to testosterone shifts too far to the female side. It’s a problem that affects around half of all men, according to the Cleveland Clinical Journal of Medicine.
WellaFreeze can also be used effectively to treat male chest reduction or gynaecomastia, the swelling of beast tissue in males.
8. Side Effects are Very Minimal or Non-existent
Side effects are very minimal and only include pinkness that lasts up to an hour after the treatment. There is also no down-time.
The most common side effect during treatment is a tugging sensation which is something most people endure with no pain. The side effects recorded afterwards are minimal, and most patients will experience a little bit of redness, bruising, minor swelling, sensitivity, numbness in the area that was treated.
9. You can do Two Body Parts Concurrently
You might be keen to try fat freeze in Singapore. At Wellaholic, our machines allow you two concurrent sessions at one go, thereby saving you time for treatments. This is useful if you are planning to treat both your left and right body part. For example, you might want to target your left and right love handles. Or you might want to target your left and right thighs. This helps you to save time over the course of repeated treatments.

$99 for Unlimited SHR Underarms Hair Removal or $8.25 per month!
Hair Removal is all the Rage
Hair removal in Singapore is all the rage now. Whether it is laser hair removal, electrolysis hair removal, IPL hair removal or SHR hair removal, or even waxing or sugaring, there are many ways you can go about getting your underarms nice and smooth. While waxing or sugaring your underarms can ensure smoothness for a month or two, the hairs eventually grow out and can cause tricky situations such as ingrown hairs.
Because of this issue, more and more customers in Singapore are opting for permanent hair removal. There are also gadgets that promise to replicate the hair removal technologies offered aesthetic salons, but sadly, due to the low wattage of such devices, they are usually not able to lead to a permanent hair reduction.
SHR Hair Removal - Introduction
SHR or Super Hair Removal is a new technology of permanent hair removal, and is the one offered by Wellaholic. Based on unbundled light, the special feature of SHR technology is that the probe or applicator is equipped with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. By using pure water to filter the high infrared areas of the light, SHR technology passes only 50% of the energy to the melanin responsible for hair growth. The remaining 50% of the energy targets the stem cells responsible for hair growth. This includes the nutrition of the hair root as well as the protein in the stem cells. As the hair root or follicle receive little or no nutrients, they can no longer grow. This is also why SHR technology is better and more preferred by customers familiar with hair removal technologies.
Less Discomfort and Reduced Risk of Burns
In contrast to IPL, the area to be treated is “hovered over” with the SHR handpiece and continuously heated. This results in temperatures of only about 45° Celsius leads to a treatment with to a lower risk of burns. Therefore the SHR device can be operated with a much lower energy than in the case of the IPL system. This results in the treatment being painless and giving just a pleasant warm feeling on the skin and underneath comparable to sunbathing. The basic idea of permanent hair removal is the denaturation of proteins.
SHR targets the Stem Cells Responsible for Hair Growth
The stem cells are responsible for the nutrition of the hair root. The SHR applicator is hovered over the skin, hair and underlying stem cells warm up slowly and continuously until each area has reached a temperature of approximately 45° Celsius. In order to be able to reach the stem cells effectively with the emitted light rays, an active connection to the hair root is also required here (anagen phase). Each hair acts like fiberglass as a “bridge” to the hair root and the connected stem cells. When the stem cells have reached the desired target temperature, the protein denatures. As a result, it can no longer supply the hair root or the follicle with nutrients and every single treated hair falls out.

We wanted to bring our services from our outlets to the students to give them an opportunity to try out Wellaholic's quality aesthetic services as well as to experience our exceptional customer service. However, it was not easy to shift our machines over to SIM. After some deliberation, we decided to bring our TeethWhite machines instead, and created a really unique promotion around it.
"Pay Only $(10+AGE) for a TeethWhite teeth whitening treatment on-the-spot"
The response from the students (and staff too!) was so good that we increased our lamps to a total of three lamps, and all our slots were all taken up back to back.
All in all, it was a fantastic event for us. We received a lot of support from our customers, but we would like to take this opportunity to give a big shout out to the SIM-UOL SRC team that's behind this.
Because of this, Wellaholic looks forward to taking part in the next event, and we take this opportunity to thank the organisers and the customers for two days well spent!

6 Main Types of Body Fat and How You Can Effectively Remove Them
The rising problem of obesity
It’s so easy to put on weight, and so difficult to get back in shape again. Obesity is one of the most common health problems. In fact, nearly 5 million American kids are obese. In England, severe obesity has hit an all-time high among children in England in their last year of primary school, a government report has found. Between 2010 and 2014, obesity surged 24% in Singapore, 27% in Malaysia and 38% in Vietnam.
Not everyone stores fat in the same places
While there are many guides and articles on the internet explaining how to combat obesity and lose weight, a method can be useful for one person but completely unless for another person. Why is this the case? This is because everyone has a specific body type and it is important for each person to understand how his or her body gain weight. Put simply, you have a specific body type. For you to lose weight and get in shape quickly, you will need to know what your body type is and do the right thing. At Wellaholic, we have a list of the body types and how to target each of them for the best weight loss and fat loss results.
Body Type 1: Full Upper Obesity (Android)
Full Upper Body Fat refers to people who tend to eat a lot and are physically inactive. This type of fat accumulates quickly because the person consumes more calories than what he or she can burn it away.
Best Fat Loss Method for Body Type 1
If you belong to this category, you will need to exercise. Aerobic or cardiovascular exercise is essential, because physical activity will help you to burn off the excess calories. Try starting by doing brisk walking, and then gradually progress to slow jogging. You can also consider swimming as the water buoyancy helps you to exercise without increasing the risk of any injuries from running impact. Also, it would be useful to limit your intake of sweets, especially refined sugars. Always avoid soft drinks and desserts as they pack in a lot of unnecessary sugars.
Body Type 2: Stomach-Centred Obesity (Android)
Fat can be easily stored in the stomach or tummy area. This is called Stomach-centred obesity. Abdominal obesity, also known as central obesity, occurs when excessive abdominal fat around the stomach and abdomen has built up to the extent that it is likely to have a negative impact on health. Central obesity has been strongly linked to cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's disease, and other metabolic and vascular diseases. An excess of visceral fat is known as central obesity, the "pot belly" or "beer belly" effect, in which the abdomen protrudes excessively.
Similar to Full Upper Obesity, the main cause is net energy imbalance, where your body consumes more usable calories than it can expend. The main culprits would be the consumption of sugars or fructose, greater meat consumption as well as smoking. Also, a study has shown that alcohol consumption is directly associated with waist circumference and with a higher risk of abdominal obesity in men, but not in women.
Best Fat Loss Method for Body Type 2
If you belong to the Body Type 2, you can try to cut down the consumption of sugars. Also try to eat an moderate amount of meat, and wherever possible avoid alcohol consumption. A permanent routine of exercise, eating healthily, and, during periods of being overweight, consuming the same number or fewer calories than used will prevent and help fight obesity
Body Type 3: Lower Body Obesity (Gynoid)
A gynoid (or pear shaped) body type is typically defined as a rounder, lower half of the body, with more fat deposited in the hips, buttocks and thighs. Conversely, those with an android body type may have greater girth around the chest and abdomen. Gynoid fat in females is used to provide nourishment for offspring and is often referred to as 'reproductive fat'. This is because it contains long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), which are important in the development of foetuses. This is also why this body type 3 applies mostly to females. Interestingly, as the female reaches post-menopause, their potential to store fat around the hips and bum decreases and they become much more ‘android’ (see below) in their storage capacity (by as much as 42%). This of course makes sense if female reproductive hormones act as a guide for gynoid storage. Although excess fat levels may lead to the client wishing to reduce them for aesthetic reasons, there is no real immediate health risk of obesity related diseases.
Best Fat Loss Method for Body Type 3
For those with a gynoid body shape (generally seen in women, but can also occur in men), high-intensity interval training and total-body resistance training circuits can be used to effectively burn calories, improve cardiovascular conditioning and reduce subcutaneous fat. Also, try not to skip breakfast. If you do not have a good breakfast to kick-start your metabolism in the morning, you will end up getting more hungry as the day progresses and this will cause you to eat more as a form of overcompensation.
Body Type 4: Swollen Stomach or Belly Bulge
Not all belly bulges are the result of excess fat or weight gain. This could be due to either bloating, menopausal hormonal belly bulge, or a beer belly. Bloating is the feeling of pressure or swelling in the stomach. The most common causes are trapped gas or eating too much in a short time. The sensation of bloating can cause abdominal distention, which is a visible swelling or extension of your belly. For menopausal hormonal belly bulge, the hormonal changes that happen to you may contribute to weight gain, usually a few years before menopause. Last but not least, drinking too much beer maybe lead to a beer belly. Beer is made with hops, and hops contain phytoestrogens, which are plant compounds that have similar effects to the female sex hormone estrogen. Though it hasn’t been proven, there is speculation that the phytoestrogens in beer change the way your body stores belly fat.
Best Fat Loss Method for Body Type 4
As with the rest, by exercising more and eating healthier foods while checking on your calories will help you to lose rather than to gain fat. Always limit your alcohol intake as this has been linked to abdominal obesity. Eat more fibre and drink lots of water to maintain regular bowels. Probiotics can also help you lose weight and reduce bloating.
Body Type 5: Lower Body Fat in the Legs
Sometimes, lower body fat can accumulate in the legs. Leg fat may be comprised of different types of fat cells. Subcutaneous fat is most common in the thighs and located right beneath the skin. Intramuscular fat is the fat dispersed within the muscle itself, much like the marbling seen in meat. Now, most of the leg fat is subcutaneous, which poses fewer long-term health concerns. Leg fat, particularly on the backs of the thighs, often takes the form of cellulite, dimpled fat deposits. Cellulite is incredibly common in women and reducing it is a frequently-cited desire among women trying to lose weight.
Best Fat Loss Method for Body Type 5
The best way to burn overall body fat is via aerobic exercise. One of the best aerobic exercises for the legs would be cycling. This low intensity exercise is easy for beginners as it does not strain the knees, while increasing muscle endurance in various parts of the legs such as the calves, hamstrings, glutes and the quadriceps. Another good exercise would be lunges. Lunges are among the most comprehensive leg workouts because they tone the quads and the hamstrings while also slimming the inner thighs and buttocks.
Body Type 6: Upper Back Fat
Are you being bothered by upper back fat? Back fat can attack in a few different areas. Most men and women experience fat in one of these three areas:
Best Fat Loss Method for Body Type 6
The hardest reality about losing weight is that you can’t just circle a specific spot on your body and melt away the fat. It takes smart full-body training to really burn fat, and you’ll see the results all over. Your number one line of defence against back fat is pull ups. Your back is made up of many different muscles, and a pull-up is an all-encompassing exercise that tones and sculpts them all. Together with pull ups and back exercises, we also highly recommend that you stick to a calorie-deficit diet, which would certainly accelerate your fat loss objectives. If you have tried dieting and exercise and still have trouble with losing back fat, you can consider Wellaholic’s WellaFreeze.

Here are the top 10 questions regarding laser hair removal. Physician assistant Tonianne Grobmyer helps to provide more information on the most common ten questions asked about laser hair removal, whether its IPL hair removal, SHR hair removal or diode hair removal.
1. How does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light (laser) to remove unwanted hair. During laser hair removal, a laser emits a light which is then absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which damages the tube-shaped sacs within the skin (hair follicles) that produce hairs. This damage inhibits or delays future hair growth. Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and can treat many hairs at the same time. The laser can treat an area approximately the size of a quarter every second. Small areas such as the upper lip can be treated in less than a minute, and large areas, such as the back or legs, may take up to an hour. Depending on a person's pain tolerance, lasers can feel like a gentle pinch or the snap of a hot rubber band.
2. How Many Treatments for Laser Hair Removal to work?
The process only works during the hair’s growth cycle, so the procedure is often done multiple times. You may have great results after three treatments, or it sometimes takes as many as nine or more. From Wellaholic's experience, it will take several treatments, spaced four weeks (or 28 days) apart to achieve 78 to 80 percent of reduction in hair growth. For best results, always get maintenance treatments done on a yearly basis to keep the follicles in check.
Treatment needs can vary because the laser targets melanin, or dark pigment, in the hair follicles. The darker your skin is, the harder it is to distinguish between the skin colour and the pigment in the follicles. You can still get good results, but it may take more treatments. If you have light skin and dark hair, you will likely get good results after just a few treatments.
3. Does Laser Hair Removal Work for Everyone?
Laser hair removal is often touted as a method of "permanent" hair removal. That is not necessarily true and laser hair removal might not be able to give you a lifetime of complete hairlessness, either.
Generally, technicians and doctors who perform laser hair removal consider a hair loss of 70 percent to be a success. Many men and women who have gone through a full series of sessions report that it does work, for the most part. It is very common to hear stories of nearly hairless areas after treatment, with the occasional straggler that pops up and needs to be dealt with. Then again, there would be a small minority that would find laser hair removal to be less effective for them.
Laser treatments are not permanent because hair follicles that were not damaged can grow back over time. That is why you need to commit to multiple sessions in order to have any degree of success. This is not a one-and-done system.
4. Is Radiation Involved?
No radiation is involved. The word “laser” stands for “light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation,” but it’s not like an X-ray. The treatment simply uses light and heat.
5. How can One Prepare for Laser Hair Removal?
The hair should be shaved a day before your appointment. Otherwise, the entire hair will absorb the energy and heat up, which can burn the skin, as that singed hair hits the skin. It also means less energy will reach the base of the follicle, so the results will be less than optimal.
It is also a good idea to stay out of the sun as much as possible before the procedure. Ultraviolet light stimulates melanocytes, which create more melanin in the skin. This makes it harder for the laser technician to distinguish between the skin and follicles, which also makes the treatment more challenging.
6. How Long Does a Laser Hair Removal Session Take?
The length of each laser hair removal session depends on the area being treated. For example, it takes 1 minute to treat the upper lip, 5 to 7 minutes to do both underarms and 25 to 30 minutes to do full legs. Generally, at Wellaholic, for our Unlimited Packages, we provide up to 2 hours per visit for the customer if he or she is doing a full body treatment.
7. Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?
Everyone’s pain threshold is different and can vary depending on things like where you are in your menstrual cycle or medications that can make the skin more sensitive. “Some clients describe the sensation as warm and tingling likened to the feeling one has after a day on the beach” explains Tonianne. “Others compare the feeling to a rubber band flicking the skin.”
8. Are There Areas Where Laser Hair Removal Doesn't Work?
The most popular places are the face, underarms, bikini line, back and chest (for men) and legs but laser removal can be applied anywhere that has hair. The only places that are off-limits are ones that can’t be seen such as inside the nostrils.
9. What can One Expect After the Laser Hair Removal Treatment?
The treatment is effective for most people and is very safe. The only problems you might experience post-treatment are a little swelling, redness or irritation around the hair follicles. This can last for a couple of days. Nevertheless, at Wellaholic, we see very little occurrence of any post-treatment symptoms or irritation. Hyperpigmentation (skin darkening) also sometimes occurs, but that typically fades pretty quickly. Burns or blisters may arise, but they are very uncommon.
10. Will the Hairs Grow Back Again?
It is entirely impossible to predict. No one can that how successfully the lasers will work on you. It varies man to man or person to person. And the results of a laser hair removal depend on some facts including the type of hair and follicle. It is clinically proved that the laser hair removal provides a long-lasting result. It works very fast over the course of treatment. Nevertheless, all the hair is not in the same growth cycle. Also, not all hair is at the same point in the growth cycle. For this reason, all the hair is not damaged at the time of the laser treatment. So some hair may continue to grow even after the laser hair removal treatment.

7 Common Hair Removal Blunders You Should Avoid at All Costs
AVOID THESE ROOKIE MISTAKES
As much as you would not believe, hair removal can be rather tricky. Whether you are lasering your leg hairs away, enduring the agongy of brazilian waxing or just tweezing or epilating like a total motherplucker at home, there can be a lot of things that might go wrong. Do yourself a favour and avoid these rookie hair removal mistakes!
Blunder 1: Suntanning before or after laser hair removal or waxing
You should always avoid getting a suntan at least 24 hours before and after your hair removal treatement (or waxing, for that matter). Sun exposure will likely make your skin too sensitive and thick for proper hair removal. Laser hair removal treatment can also cause skin inflammation, so getting too much sun before or after treatment can lead to not only bad burns but also hyperpigmentation (i.e. the darkening of the skin).
Blunder 2: Sharing a razor or shaver
If you have a habit of borrowing your boyfriend's razor or shaver that you think hardly anything of it, bad bad girl! Sharing a razor or shaver, or using a dirty one can actually cause folliculitis -- also known as the infection of the hair follicles. Folliculitis is a common skin condition in which hair follicles become inflamed. It's usually caused by a bacterial or fungal infection. At first it may look like small red bumps or white-headed pimples around hair follicles — the tiny pockets from which each hair grows. In the worse case scenario, it might also spread warts, jock itch, or even herpes! You are warned!
Blunder 3: Dry Shaving
Dry shaving is shaving without any water or shaving cream. While dry shaving is pretty convenient, it can also cause skin irritation and increase your risk of cuts and nicks. If you need to shave, try to do it in or after the shower, when the skin and hairs are soft and hydrated. Otherwise, try using shaving gel or foam which helps the blades glide easily on the skin.
Blunder 4: Getting hair removal done the week before your period
Always try to avoid any hair removal treatments (whether IPL, SHR or even waxing) a week before your menstrual cycle. During this week, females tend to be more sensitive. So ripping, pulling or zapping can feel much worse. In addition, your hair follicles has a likelihood to sweel more and your skin might skin redder for a longer time. Avoid this period!
PS: However, if youreally need to do your hair removal treatment during your period, please check-in with our consultants. This is so that they will be able to adjust the settings in order to align with your change in pain tolerance and increased sensitivity during this period.
Blunder 5: Using a dirty (or old) razor or shaver
This is one area where consistency is not good! If you have been using the same razor or shaver for the longest time, it is seriously time to toss it out for a brand new one. Bacteria collects on the razor blades, and with humidity and moisture in the bathroom, the likelihood increases dramatically. Alternatively, you can also soak it in rubbing alcohol for a couple of minutes before shaving to kill the bacteria.
Blunder 6: Overplucking Your Eyebrows
While most of us do pluck our eyebrows to keep them near and tidy, and to achieve a more defined look, do be careful of over plucking your eyebrows. Over-tweezing can make your eyes look too close together, and it might also end up damaging your hair follicles which will results in hairs not growing back permanently.
Blunder 7: Putting on Fragranced Moisturiser after Shaving
When acids or fragrances get into the skin that has just been exfoliated by a razor or shaver, it will burn and cause a reaction. This might also potentially set off an allergic reaction. Hence, on the safe side, avoid not only fragranced moisturiser but also any perfume or cologne. Notwithstanding, a hydrating moisturiser that is scent-free is highly recommended as it will not help help hydrate and soothe the treated area, but help to reduce any bumps or inflammation caused by both the shaving and the hair removal process.

How Can I Get Rid of My Laugh Lines?
Laugh lines, or smile lines, as they are sometimes called, are a type of wrinkles that develop mainly around the sides of your mouth. They are also known as nasolabial folds, as they form from the bottom of the nose to the corners of the mouth. While they are very common, their severity can vary. As you age, these types of wrinkles may be inevitable. While people should be reassured that everyone has nasolabial folds, some people would like theirs to be less obvious or prominent. In this article, Wellaholic will share with you some of the possible treatments for laugh lines.
Primary Causes of Laugh Lines
The irony of laugh lines, is that they are actually not caused by years of smiling and laughing, and you should not stop being happy! According to Dr. Arash Akhavan, MD and founder of The Dermatology & Laser Group, these things don't even play a role in the deep folds in the skin, which occur from mid cheek to chin and form parentheses around our lips.
The primary causes of laugh lines include:
How Can I prevent Laugh lines?
Some of the causes of laugh lines may be prevented by adopting good lifestyle habits as a young adult. For example, you can wear sunscreen every day to prevent wrinkles that are related to sun damage. Do consider Wellaholic's award-winning Daily Sunscreen.
Keeping your skin hydrated also goes a long way, whether you already have smile lines or not. Be sure to drink plenty of water every day, and avoid drinking too much caffeine or alcohol as both have diuretic effects.
If you needed another reason to quit smoking, know that kicking this habit now can help prevent future wrinkles, including smile lines.
But if the laugh lines are already forming, then it's time to consider the various possible options to treat laugh lines.
Microneedling or Collagen Induction THerapy
Collagen induction therapy (also called microneedling or skin needling) aims to increase natural collagen production in your skin. As you age, your skin loses collagen and therefore loses elasticity, so the thought behind needling is that more collagen can fill in wrinkles, such as smile lines. Wellaholic provides microneedling treatments for not only the face but also the neck area. In addition, combine the microneedling treatment with both Hyaluronic acid and Matrixyl serums to help plump the wrinkled areas.
The American Academy of Dermatology says that the results from needling are gradual, with the full results expected within nine months. As your skin heals, you might see some bruising and redness. Most people need three to six treatments total.
OTC Creams such as Retinol
OTC creams offer more affordable wrinkle treatment options. Retinol is among one of the more studied ingredients because of its claimed ability to break down the free radicals that can lead to wrinkles. One study published in the Archives of Dermatology Trusted Source reported significant results in patients with fine lines and wrinkles who used retinol treatments of 0.4 percent. Participants used retinol lotion three times per week for six months. Wellaholic's Retinol Serum and Retinol Moisturiser can be used on a daily or once-per-two-day regime to help combat wrinkles.
Vitamin C, peptides, and hydroxy acids are also used to treat wrinkles. The downside to OTC creams is that they can take months to work, and you won’t get permanent results. Side effects can include redness, rashes, and burning.
Fillers are most often the first step toward reducing nasolabial folds. Dermatologists and other aesthetic professionals inject fillers into the skin around the cheek. This adds volume to the area and lifts the skin. What type of filler and how much is used depends on the severity of the fold. The most common fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a natural building block of skin, and calcium hydroxylapatite, typically found in bones. Both have been shown to help stimulate the growth of collagen in addition to plumping the skin.
Fillers are easily injected in the office and require little to no recovery time. Some people experience slight bruising, but makeup can be worn immediately after treatment.
However, fillers are a short-term solution. They last 6 months to 2 years, with most lasting 6 to 9 months. How long a filler lasts depends on the type of filler and how quickly your body dissolves it.
Botox, Dysport or Xeomin
Botulinum toxins (Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin) are also injectable fillers, though they work differently. Your dermatologist injects the substance with a small needle into the area of concern. The substances work by weakening the muscles in the given area, which makes lines and wrinkles more relaxed and less noticeable. You can see results within a few days of the initial injection.
Botox injections may be performed by a dermatologist, ophthalmologist, or plastic surgeon. Recovery time is relatively short, and you should be able to resume your normal activities (including exercise) after 24 hours. Some common side effects include headaches and redness or irritation at the injection site.
There are exercises that may help someone reduce laugh lines around the corners of the mouth. These exercises target muscles that may help tighten the skin of the face.
A person has muscles on the face that are almost never worked out. The muscle targeted in the first exercise is one of them. Used to control puckering and help close the mouth, the orbicularis oris muscles are important in helping prevent and reduce the appearance of laugh lines.
To target these muscles:
REmember, PRevention is better than cure!
Laugh lines may be inevitable due to ageing and the natural loss of elasticity in the skin. But that does not mean they cannot be delayed and made to appear less dramatic.
To maintain skins' appearance:

7 Expert Tips for Getting the Best Results from Your SHR Hair Removal Treatment
So you have decided to give it a go and try hair removal in Singapore. After reading about the various kinds of hair removal, you have settled on SHR hair removal as it is a newer form of hair removal technology and more effective and less painful than IPL hair removal. A quick search on Google brought you to Wellaholic as one of the leading SHR hair removal treatment chains in Singapore. Congratulations! We look forward to helping you with your hair removal objectives. Nevertheless, how can you fully maximise your SHR hair removal treatment to achieve the best possible results? Based on various scientific journals on SHR hair removal technology and expert panel discussions, we share with you 7 expert tips for getting the best results from your SHR hair removal treatment, including some unique to Wellaholic.
1. Avoid the sun. Always.
We have said this to our customers too often. Always avoid full sun exposure (to the treated area) before and after the SHR hair removal treatment. While you might want to go to the beach to show off your nice and smoothly body, we would caution you from doing that. This is because the treated areas would have been subjected to strong SHR energies in order to affect the hair follicles to stop hair growth. By exposing your skin to the sun, you would be over-stressing your skin, and this may lead to skin complications such as hyper-pigmentation. Always try to give at least a week or two of gap between treatments and sun exposure, and if you really, really need to be exposed to the sun. Use a reliable sun protection, such as our award-winning Wellaholic Daily Sunscreen, Winner of Best Skincare for Best Face Sunscreen (Reader's Choice Awards) by Beauty Insider Beauty & Wellness Awards 2019.
2. You need to shave before treatment
Contrary to what your friends might have told you, you actually need to shave before your SHR treatment. By shaving, you allow the SHR energy to be fully absorbed by the hair follicles, thereby improving the effectiveness of the treatment. Ideally, shaving a day before treatment (most customers do that in the evening prior to their treatment). Nevertheless, there are always difficult-to-reach areas such as the back and the private areas. At Wellaholic, we have our bestseller WellaSmooth Ultimate Plan which includes not only unlimited full body SHR treatment, but also unlimited shaving and post-treatment whitening or hydration with AfterGlow.
3. The Optimal Hair Growth Cycle starts from 28 Days
This is one of the most common misconception about hair removal. We do have many customers thinking that after their first session, their hairs will stop growing. This is actually not the case. This is because what happens is that when one follicle dies, there might be another one next to it that may regenerate itself. Hair grows in different cycles so at any time, 30 to 60 percent of the hair is in the anagen growth cycle stage. The laser is targeting the hairs in the growth stage. The dead ones that are dead will shed after a few weeks. By the time you go for your next appointment (recommended 28 days later, to time with the hair growth cycle), the hairs that were in their growth stage will now by in their dormant or dying stage. This is also why we always advise customers to stick to a strict 28-day treatment schedule to see the best results.
4. UPDATE ON YOUR SKIN COLOUR AND ETHNICITY TO DETERMINE THE RIGHT SHR SETTINGS
Lasers work differently on light and dark skins. People with fair skin will fall under Type 1, 2 and 3 and responds best to shorter wavelength (755 nanometers), which is easy on the skin and also effective on light hair. On the other hand, people with dark skin will fall under Type 4, 5 and 6 (where Type 4 is Indian, and Type 5 and 6 being African American). In this case, we will use a wavelength that bypasses the epidermis and has a long pulse like the 1064 nanometers and safe on their type of skin. In short, always sharing with our consultant your hair type and colour, as well as your skin type and colour to allow the consultant to adjust the setting that's best suited for you.
5. You will need 6 to 12 or more treatments to see maximum results
Laser hair removal is a procedure where a specific beam of light bypasses the epidermis and targets the follicle. This disables the reproductive cycle of the hair without hurting the skin. As laser hair removal destroys the follicle, the hair shaft becomes weak and limp, and with repeated treatments - about 6 to 12 treatments - the follicle dies and no hair grows. For areas with a dense hair follicles, there are more hair follicles to treat, and hence more treatments are necessary to target all hair follicles with varying hair growth cycles. Based on our experience, facial hair and hair at the private areas require 12 or more treatments to fully stop hair growth.
6. Check out our PTT with AfterGlow if you have hyperpigmentation issues
If you are suffering from hyperpigmentation issues (common at the underarm areas or the private regions), you might want to consider our PTT with AfterGlow. Further enhance the tone and suppleness of your treated skin with our PTT or Post-Treatment Therapy with AfterGlow. Choose from either Whitening Therapy for hyperpigmented or darkened skin, or choose our Hydrating Therapy for accelerated skin repair from the harsh SHR energy rays. Then end it off with our AfterGlow™ red light treatment which helps to repair and rejuvenate your treated skin.
WHITENING OR HYDRATING? YOU DECIDE
7. Seek Out a Provider that can Take care of your hair removal needs for a lifetime, like wellaholic
While SHR helps to permanently remove hair after 8 to 12 sessions, we have a small number of customers that see hair growth in specific areas after some time has passed. This could be due to their genetics (specifically hair gene Lhx2). We felt that it is not fair for customers to pay a full price again to treat the area again. Our proposed solution: a LIFETIME MAINTAIN MODE for these customers. This Lifetime plan is unique to Wellaholic, and we have not seen any other providers able to offer this to their customers.
If you qualify for Lifetime Maintain Mode, you get to enjoy >50% discount off per-session SHR hair removal treatment rates for the rest of your lifetime! This is our way to taking care of customers who might have completed the SHR hair removal regime but find hairs growing back again some time in the future. With this Lifetime Maintain Mode, you will never have to pay full retail prices for maintenance treatments with Wellaholic!
